The Chieveley Village Fete 2024 - a truly traditional village fete with something a little different each year.
Chieveley Recreation Ground, Sunday 23rd June, 2pm-5pm
Chieveley Fête has a new venue this year. Chieveley Recreational Ground (located on Chieveley High Street, RG20 8TE) is a wonderful large, flat, grassy, village space and will enable us to have what we hope will be a bigger and better Fête than ever.
Parking for visitors will be available on The Green over the road from the Rec and we will have marshals on hand to direct you. Disabled parking (with badge please) will be in the Village Hall car park close to the field. Well-behaved dogs are welcome but should be kept on a lead. There are dog waste bins on site so please, please clear up after your pet and use them. No bikes or scooters please.
Activities for this year include:
There will be masses to do for all age groups.
- The famous swingboats and carousel, as well as trampolines, bouncy castles and a cave activity.
- A fun dog show – a first for our fête! This is being run by local business Rosie’s Pet Care – you can find out more about them on Facebook. Just bring your dog along on the day and enter the category that suits them (or you!) best. N.B. if it’s a hot day, the dog show will be replaced by another fun activity in the interests of animal welfare. Rosie herself will make the call.
- The ever popular stocks, complete with many soggy sponges to throw – shall we reveal who’s the target this year? Maybe not yet…
- Live Brass Band music, the fab George P (he’s on Facebook too) who you may have hear singing in Ye Olde Red Lion, and of course the fantastic PUGS.
- The tombola, of course. This is a village fête after all.
- Teas, cakes, bar, ice creams, barbecue and this year crepes, churros and beer garden too, to keep you fête-fit.
- Classic cars and motorbikes static display – another Chieveley fête first!
- Short mat bowls, cricket, football and tennis activities.
- The fire engine! Of course! (Emergencies permitting).
- Tug of war to round off the afternoon.
- Young stall holders – look out in our catchment schools and on social media for how to get involved.
And frankly, we have surpassed ourselves on shopping stalls this year. A huge range of delicious artisan and upmarket food and drinks (and doggy treats too). Crafty jewellery, pottery, cards, woodcraft. The ever popular book stall. Bring your pocket money
All proceeds in aid of community projects and societies. Our beneficiaries this year are:
- St. Mary's Church, Chieveley
- The Downs School
- Berkshire Youth
- Chieveley Cricket Club
Well-behaved dogs welcome, though should be kept on a lead. There are dog waste bins on site so please, please clear up after your pet and use them. No bikes or scooters please.
