Friends of Chieveley Church AGM 23 April

The Friends of Chieveley Church Annual General Meeting will be held in the church on Monday 23 April at 7.30pm.

All members of the Friends are invited to a very short AGM, followed by drinks and canapés. Anyone interested in hearing more about joining the Friends will also be warmly welcomed.

Being a Friend of Chieveley Church is not about being a churchgoer, it is for anyone who appreciates the benefits of living in a village like Chieveley and wants to help preserve its character and assets.

The Church of St Mary the Virgin has accompanied villagers through life's ups and downs -and more humdrum moments- for more than 800 years and maintaining its fabric is vital to ensure it can do so for another 800 years.

This costs a lot of money, which cannot always be met by Church funds. The Friends of Chieveley Church raise funds to assist in maintaining the building and graveyard. Many projects have been supported by the Friends: repairs to the bell tower, new bell ropes, fencing and new gates, the planting of young oak trees and flowers in the graveyard, rewiring and repairing guttering, and most recently, the purchase of a new boiler. In total, since the Friends were started up, more than £50,000 has been raised for St. Mary's and there are now around one hundred Friends.

Anyone can become a Friend of Chieveley Church simply by making an annual donation of at least £10. The average personal donation is £25 per annum, and societies and businesses can become corporate Friends for £25 or more each year. By becoming a Friend, you will be helping to maintain a really important part of our village heritage.

Come along to the AGM to find out more and hear about our plans for this year.
